Thriving or Surviving

Not so long ago I entered a year-long coaching relationship with a clergywoman entering a new ministry setting. As part of our first call, I asked her to imagine herself one year in the future. What was her vision of life and work as she looked ahead? What did she want to be different? How did she see herself growing as a leader? What dreams did she have?

She paused for a moment and replied: “Honestly…, I just want to survive.”

Do you know someone who is merely surviving in ministry, feeling the weight of endless responsibilities and impending burnout? If that someone is a United Methodist clergywoman, invite her to consider the Thriving in Ministry program, funded by a generous Lily grant through the Center for Ministry at Millsaps College This innovative initiative (in partnership with The Art of WellBeing) is designed to empower clergywomen with the tools, resources, and support they need to flourish in their calling. Imagine moving beyond just getting by, to embracing a vibrant, energized ministry filled with passion and purpose. Discover how to cultivate resilience, build meaningful connections, and lead with renewed joy.

There is no question that we lead and serve in challenging times. Even so, I believe thriving is a real possibility if a leader can connect with supportive resources and relationships. The Thriving in Ministry program will support, resource, and empower United Methodist clergywomen toward creating a new culture where pastoral wellbeing is a priority and celebrated. And where pastoral wellbeing contributes to pastoral excellence. The program will include diverse peer groups, large and small group retreats for mentored leadership learning and renewal, and individual as well as group coaching.
